LIMITED REPRESENTATION / UNBUNDLED SERVICES
In these economic times, everyone is tightening their belts and trying to conserve what resources they have. Many clients need to have representation but simply can't afford full representation. Limited Representation or Unbundled Services means that you can hire an attorney to do specific tasks related to your case. This can include the following services:
- provide legal advice tailored to your specific case
- do legal research and provide case law and statutes to support your position
- draft documents for filing with the court
- review proposed documents prior to signing to protect your legal rights
- draft correspondence
- explain procedural process and provide tips on how to represent yourself in court
- represent you at a specific hearing (filing a limited appearance) (NOTE: this option requires additional time for preparation for the hearing. Not available for final hearings as those require full representation)
- negotiate a settlement or review settlement proposals
- representation at mediation or review of mediated agreement
Unbundled or Limited representation allows clients to better protect their legal rights and make informed decisions even if they can't afford full representation. When parties represent themselves in court, they often will leave themselves open to further, more expensive litigation down the road because they were uninformed during their initial proceedings. Unbundled services also allows parties access to legal services without having to pay a large retainer upfront. Although retainers are still required, they are substantially reduced because of the limited scope of the representation. A client who hires an attorney for unbundled limited representation does not receive the same benefits as a client who hires an attorney for full representation in that the unbundled services are done on an as requested basis and does not provide the more comprehensive legal services typical in full representation cases.
