Alimony/Spousal Support
There are no statutory guidelines for alimony. However, New Hampshire courts, if the do award alimony tend to award rehabilitative alimony (for a specified period of time, usually lasting a few years). The main test for alimony is the need of the party requesting the alimony and the ability of the other party to pay. The following is a partial list of factors the courts typically consider when determining spousal maintenance:
- Length of marriage
- Causes for breakdown of marriage
- Age, health, and occupation of the parties
- Amount and sources of income
- Vocational skills
- Employability
- Property distribution
- The opportunity of each of the parties to acuqire assets and income in the future

In some cases, clients are able to reach spousal support agreements through negotiations and mediation. However, when an amicable arrangement cannot be met, we can represent your interests in court.
